Amka Kenya is a new composition created with the participation of the Ndugu Mdogo children, on the need for Kenyans to shun violence, tribal divide, political incitements and instead focus on national cohesion, informed choices of leaders and peace building initiatives, as the Nation prepares for the next General Election.

Children from Ndugu Mdogo Rescue Centre together with colourful celebration launched their much awaited Amka Kenya music album on Friday 27 April at an event in Kibera that mainly appealed for peace and harmony in the country. The event was held at the centre’s premises in Kibera, Karanja Road area.

The commemoration of this international event held every seventh of May was this year marked at the Dagoretti District Headquarters grounds attracting hundreds of children from schools, orphanages, with the government, and other stakeholders being represented.

Graced by former long-distance runner and peace champion, Tegla Loroupe, the event pulled crowds from the neighborhood, members and staffers of Koinonia community among other dignitaries from the government and organizations working with children.

This is the ninth time students from the Silkeborg Hojskole, a short-term vocational training institution situated in Det midtjyske Søhøjland District, are making trips to Kenya for the artistic engagement since the project was incepted in 2008 after the director of the Art school, Jan Lundum met with Jack Matika of Ndugu Mdogo.

Ian Stanley a beneficiary of Koinonia community secured a place at Nairobi School - one of the prestigious high schools in Kenya after scoring high marks in his primary level. He was enrolled on 13 February 2012 .

The programme was initiated mid last year when Jack Matika, a street educator with the Community while on a duty visit to the school and saw the despair some of those children were in, prompting him to share the idea with other Community members who overwhelmingly approved it.

Twelve young Street Boys aged between 5-14 years that were on May 10 2011 rescued from the street of Nairobi and underwent rehabilitation at Ndugu Mdogo Rescue Centre, have now joined school and reunited with their families.

Esther joined Koinonia Community in 2008 as a communications/programs officer and was later appointed as programme manager at Anita Home. In 2009, she was promoted as administrator.

On 29 and 30 October the young enthusiastic boys had a 2 days workshop at the Center premises with a team of students from Silkeborg Højskole in Denmark to learn skills on how to express themselves through art.
