Free Dental Care for Koinonia Children

Oral health month Program sponsored by Colgate Palmolive Company with the support of Kenya Dental Assosiation (KDA) and University of Nairobi offered their free dental services to children from Koinonia homes as a give back to the society.

Dental Health Koinonia children benefited from a country wide free oral health month program sponsored by Colgate Palmolive Company with the support and participation of members of the Kenya Dental Association (KDA) and the University of Nairobi.

This year's program targets Children Homes as a give back to the society. Said Mrs. Esther Mutwota, Professional oral coordinator Colgate Palmolive.

The children were subjected to a series of dental diagnosis and scans to check through their oral health. Those that experienced serious complications were given letters of referral to government hospital for further check up.

Mary Mueni from Anita’s home was among the referral cases when she was asked to visit the government hospital to get a tooth fill that was breaking out. The rest of the children felt relieved of their dental health as they smiled their way back to the centers with a pack of tooth brush and tooth paste all from Colgate Company.

There were encouraged to be brushing their teeth twice in a day, in the morning after breakfast and in the evening when they are going to sleep.

Dr. Stephen Irungu, a chief dental surgeon from the Ministry of Health, was among the doctors present during the exercise. He explained that a wrong diet is the main causes of the dental problems we have with our children, namely eating much of sugary stuff then staying without brushing the teeth.

In his statement, Dr. Irungu said that they were checking out for periodontal diseases, dental caries and gum diseases. Those in severe pain and required tooth extraction were to be administered with immediate concern.

A team of about fifteen dental doctors took charge of the whole process.

Father Kizito, who hosted the organizers of the program at Shalom House, gave his sincere appreciation to the team for their concern to take care of the children’s dental health.
