The August 2009 Work Camp
Pangono-Pangono Group
This year’s work camp started earlier that usual in the first week of August, specifically on August 2. However as time went by, Guido Sangiovanni, the leader of the Italian work campers, named his group “Pangono- Pangono,” meaning “slowly- slowly”. He said the group it was very slow in doing things.
Visit to Adventure City
A family tour is also done during the work camp, and the Mthunzi boys choose a place they would like to tour. This year they chose Adventure City, a water theme park in the outskirts of Lusaka, where had a great time with their Italian friends. They swam, played volleyball, football and many other games.
Evaluation Meeting
On August 26 there was a meeting to evaluate the work camp and discuss any problems that might have been faced. The evaluation involved the Italian volunteers, Mthunzi workers and the Mthunzi boys.
Campfire
There was a campfire after the evaluation meeting. The campfire is a very memorable event where the Mthunzi boys, Koinonia Community members and work campers sit, eat, chat, sing and dance together around a big fire that commemorates love, peace and joy as one family.
End of the Work Camp
The work camp ended on August 28, 2009. The Mthunzi boys shared their last hugs with their Italian friends, most of whom shed tears knowing that they will miss Mthunzi very much.
Among the work campers were three visitors had visited Mthunzi last year too, namely Maddalena, Leonardo and Jessica. Happy to return to Mthunzi and find each boy growing healthy and spiritually, they said they would all have loved to spend the rest of their lives forever here at Mthunzi.
