Upcoming WORKCAMP

Mthunzi center usually holds work camps every year in August. During this month usually about 15 Italian volunteers from AMANI association come to stay with us.

Mthunzi boys chatting with Amani volunteers during one of the previous work camps. The work camp means a lot to the Mthunzi boys. It is the period when they get to know the volunteers by working together in different works as pruning the orchard and cultivating vegetables. Other activities are sports, cultural dances and performances, visiting homes of the poor and less privileged in the areas around Koinonia community such as Chikondano and Chigwirizano.

But what is very important for us is that we become one family. It is a time for chatting and mingling, sharing cultural values, experiences, educative stories. The Italians and the Mthunzi boys eat and spend most of the time together. This nourishes the growing of good friendship.

Members of the local community are also invited to attend the work camp, that last about a month. The last day usually ends with a big fire, supper is taken around the fire, stories are shared, and we often stay up the whole night.
