Mthunzi boys elect representatives

At the beginning of January 2009, all the boys at Mthunzi elected their representatives to the committee that manages the affairs of the Centre. The election process was overseen by Fr. Renato Kizito Sesana.

First, all the activities that needed the involvement of the boys were identified, leading to the establishment of four departments and the election of four representatives to each department. The leaders of each department will be included in the Centre’s managing committee, and once each week, they will be meeting with the Program Manager, Mr. Malama, the Farm Manager (Mr. Mtonga), the Dispensary Head (Mrs. Bandora) and Mr. Wembya, the head of the Social Department.
Those elected will hold their positions for one year, after which there will be a new election.
Below are the four departments and the boys’ elected representatives. The first boy on each list is the leader of the team of representatives.

The leaders and their deputies were elected from amongst resident boys at Mthunzi, while the other two members are secondary school boarders. The leaders and their deputies were assigned to a home next to the Program Manager, so that they live together with him and assist him to improve all aspects of life at Mthunzi Centre.

All the boys are very happy with this assignment, and grateful to Father Kizito for the trust he has shown in them - all having understood what it means to be “responsible.”
