We Belong To each Other

About Us

Koinonia is a lay Christian community inspired by the life of the first Christians as reported in the Acts of the Apostles. Members of the community live together as one family sharing their time, dreams, successes and failures, while fostering stronger bonds of brotherhood.

Koinonia Zambia was founded in 1980 in Bauleni, Lusaka, by a group of young men from different professions and backgrounds who had gathered around Father Renato “Kizito” Sesana, a Comboni missionary. The young men lived together with Father Kizito, sharing the gospel and helping each other in their material needs. All members were – and still are – required to be financially independent and contribute to the life of the Community.

Koinonia members share a commitment to improve the local society within which the Community is based.

The members also strive to counteract the economic and social evils bred by poverty and individualism, giving priority to the marginalized members of the society, such as children in difficult circumstances, especially street children, women and young people from poor backgrounds.

In order to live according to their call, Community members are involved in various activities and programmes that aim to improve the quality of life of the people living in their neighbouring area.

Currently, Koinonia Zambia is involved in the following projects:

  • Mthunzi Centre

  • Agriculture

  • Football club

  • Youth Programmes
