THE WISDOM OF ARISTOTLE

The roots of education are bitter,
But the fruit is sweet.

It is possible to fail in many ways …
While to succeed is possible only in one way
(For one is easy and the other difficult –
To miss the mark easy, to hit difficult).

It is the nature of desire not to be satisfied,
And most men live only for the gratification of it.
The beginning of reform is not so much
To equalize property as to train
The noble sort of natures not to desire more,
And prevent the lower from getting more.

I count him braver who overcomes his desires
Than him who overcomes his enemies.

We should behave to our friends as we
Would wish our friends to behave to us.

If happiness is activity in accordance with
Excelllence, it is reasonable that it should be
In accordance with the highest excellence.

Well begun is half done.
