Telecentres have changed and improved lives of several Ugandans
Speaking at Africa Regional Preparatory Conference for the World Summit on the Information Society in Accra the National coordinator telecentre project in Uganda Mr. Martin Nsubuga says the centre piloted in five districts have improved education standards and helped communities to access market information. He says the telecentres include Nakaseke, Kachwekano, and Buwama among others. Using Nakaseke as a case study Mr Nsubuga said the number of students qualifying to join the high institutions of learning like the university has tremendously increased in the last three years. Nsubuga says the project funded by UNESCO has proved a success and will soon be introduced in other parts of the country. However, he noted that lack of power in rural areas is still a big challenge.
