NAIROBI---Kenya Medical Training colleges (KMTCs), Teachers Training Colleges (TTCs) and Technical, Industrial and Vocation Training Colleges(TIVET) are set to admit candidates who sat for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Exams in 2013 in full capacity.

Kenya University and Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS) Chief Executive, John Muraguri said that 58,000 students would be admitted to study degree courses. An additional 39,000 would be enrolled for diploma courses in the universities.

Speaking Monday May 19 at an Online Application Launch at Placement Headquarters, Kenya Science College, Muraguri said that all candidates with a minimum overall grade of C- and above are legible to apply for diploma courses in training colleges. The 5 day online application window will close at midnight May 31,

KUCCPS has set the cut-off points for admission of bachelor’s degree programme at B (60points) male and B- (58points) for female candidates, thus all who meet the cut-off points set by the service for admission to bachelors or diplomas of their choice.

This criteria is based on the total declared capacity for programmes under government sponsorship and the performance analysis of 2013 KCSE results released this year.

Muraguri urged the candidates to apply online to be admitted and those who already had applied should recheck and revise their cluster subject if not content with their first selection.

“Due to the ever rising number of  candidates  sitting for the  KCSE exams, the government  universities alone cannot accommodate all of them, but still we have KMTCs, TTCs and TIVET colleges that supplement  our universities, offering the largest percentage of the total capacity of candidates an opportunity to achieve their goals and dreams,” said Mugaguri.

As per CRA 2012 policy, the minimum placement requirements for a bachelor’s degree for candidates who schooled, both in primary and secondary levels in counties regarded as marginalized areas this policy, is B- (55points). ”And with many students surpassing this cut-off mark, it’s becoming difficult to avoid congestion in public universities, thus in need of more training colleges,” he said.
