Kenya: Gina Din-Kariuki to speak at UN Private Sector and Africa Leadership Forums
Nairobi-- Gina Din-Kariuki, Founder and Chairman of Gina Din Corporate Communications, will be a speaker at the United Nations Private Sector Forum 2013 and the Africa Leadership Forum to be held fromSeptember 20 in New York.
Designed as the high-level luncheon of the UN Global Compact Leaders' Summit, this year's Forum will focus on the private sector's role in the post-2015 development agenda, placing emphasis on unique opportunities and challenges in Africa. Key themes for discussion include employment and inclusive growth, education, women's empowerment and innovative and sustainable finance. Gina will be the lead discussant at a high-level roundtable discussion on the topic of women’s empowerment; specifically, on how the private and public sectors can partner to support and sustain women’s entrepreneurship in Africa.

The UN Private Sector Forum 2013 is organized by the UN Global Compact in close cooperation with the African Development Bank, African Business Magazine, the International Labour Organization (ILO), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Since 2008, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon convenes the Forum during the opening session of the UN General Assembly to give voice to the private sector in inter-governmental negotiations on key topics.
The event is designed to maximize interaction, increase understanding of efforts underway and generate a range of ideas and commitments from the private sector to build a sustainable future with a specific focus on African markets and societies.
A range of high-flying members of the public and private sectors, including 300 Heads of State and Government, chief executives, civil society leaders and heads of UN agencies will attend the Forum.
Over the weekend at the Africa Leadership Forum, Gina will speak as part of a panel on the debate topic “Africa in the World: Creating a Global Brand of Excellence”. Representing the private sector, her specific approach to the topic will seek to discuss the role the private sector can play in formulating strategies to re-brand the African continent in order to attract investment.
The African Leadership Forum, like the Private Sector Forum, will have a list of key speakers and attendees, including former Mozambican President Joaquim Chissano, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Amina Mohammed, Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame and former South African President Thabo Mbeki. Gina’s activities in New York will be under the auspices of the Gina Din Foundation, which aims to focus on empowering women and youth across the African continent.
