Orange Devices to Cost Less Over Easter
By NewsfromAfrica
NAIROBI-- Integrated telecommunications services provider, Telkom Kenya Limited, has reduced the prices of selected voice and data devices. Orange customers can now purchase a range of multi-feature devices from entry level and high end mobile phones, data devices and desk phones at significantly reduced costs from Orange shops and partner outlets countrywide.
The company’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Maureen Sande, says that this is in line with the broader strategy to increase mobile (voice and data) penetration, and uptake via the Orange network.
“We are committed to offering our customers quality at competitive pricing enabling the acquisition of devices that will allow them enjoy and benefit from the use of multi-feature, data enabled gadgets,” said Ms. Sande.
The price change affects a host of essential devices including: the Smartax MT880 ADSL modem from KSh 8,500 to KSh 2,999; the SunTab tablet at KSh 19,999 down from KSh 23,999, pre-loaded with an Orange SIM card as well as one-month unlimited internet on mobile; the Samsung Galaxy S Duos at KSh 21,499 from KSh 22,999; Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini i8190 at KSh 27,999 from KSh 29,999 and the Nokia 305 whose price has been reduced to KSh 6,899 from KSh 7,299. These changes translate to a reduction of between 5% and 65% in price. These devices also allow for more flexibility in regard to compatibility with an array of operating systems including Windows, Mac and Linux.
“Mobile penetration has been steadily rising in Kenya. The increase was slightly below two percentage points, from 75.4% to 77.2%, in the last quarter reviewed by the CCK. This indicates that the appetite for mobile devices and by extension data enabled products is still on the increase. Therefore, Orange is keen on providing more competitive options for an ever growing mobile market,” added Ms. Sande.
According to the CCK’s Quarterly Sector Statistics Report for the first quarter of the 2012/2013 financial year, there were a total of 30.4 million subscriptions in the mobile telephony market segment by the end of that first quarter up from 29.7 million posted in the previous quarter.
