Ericsson, the leading global telecommunications vendor, will be showcasing innovative solutions at the 2012 edition of AfricaCom, the continent’s premier ICT conference which starts next Tuesday at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in South Africa.

Arun Bhikshesvaran, Global Chief Marketing Officer for Ericsson, will give a key note presentation on the role of mobile broadband in enabling a Networked Society on Wednesday, November 15 at 1220. In addition to this Pieter van der Westhuizen, the regional Head of Engagement Practices, will speak at a master class on improving broadband access across Africa, and Luigi Migliaggio, the regional Head of IT Managed Services, will join a panel in discussing the investment priorities for Africa’s converging telecoms, media and ICT markets.

From 13 to 15 November, visitors to Ericsson’s exhibition located at stand D8 in the main hall of the convention centre will be given an insight into the future of communications and explore the following:

The Networked Society in Africa

Ericsson is the prime driver of the Networked Society in Africa - we envision a time when connectivity will be used to change industry, public services and private lives, and when everything that can benefit from a connection will have one. To illustrate this, Ericsson will be showcasing exciting new services being offered in the cloud, with innovations such as ‘the Jukebox in the cloud’, which allows users create playlists and store music in the cloud for play back on any connected devices. There will also be a demonstration of 'Connected Me', a solution that uses the human body to transmit signals as part of a communication network.

UNPLUG Rethinking Mobile Broadband

Ericsson’s early research and insights played a key role in shaping the mobile broadband story. Today, mobile broadband has come to the point where it is not just about optimizing technologies and services, it’s also about exploring a whole new way of doing business and interacting with the world around us. This new era requires service providers to rethink how they innovate, operate, collaborate and make money. It requires them to UNPLUG, and look beyond boxes and spread sheets, looking for solutions that are truly smart, scalable, simple and can deliver superior performance for the provision of innovative broadband solutions. At the exhibition, there will be a demonstration of LTE Advanced showing telecom grade voice and video calls over LTE, and discussions around packet core network evolution and how LTE can assist in offering differentiated services.

REALIZE Your Tomorrow Today

This shift toward increased consumer usage of advanced services, combined with market liberalization, is driving transformation in the world of communication. With this shift comes the promise of new proļ¬ts through increased operational efficiency, personalized services that deliver optimal customer experiences, and new business opportunities and partnerships.

To REALIZE the opportunities ahead, operators need an experienced and innovative partner with a holistic view, a clear understanding of how business, IT and networks work together to achieve success, and a portfolio that provides the freedom through automation to be efficient, innovative and focused on delivering customer experience in real-time.
