Sudan: Voice of Community Radio
By Eric Sande
A community radio project in Nuba Mountains ‘voice of community FM’, situated in Kauda town in Sudan’s war-ravaged state of South Kordofan, is trying to help the peace process there by encouraging dialogue in an atmosphere of ongoing tension and violence.
NewsfromAfrica met Walid Ali Abubakar the station’s Registration coordinator who says the FM station is the central to hope for peace in Nuba Mountains.
The scene of the ongoing flaming conflicts in the region is between the Khartoum government forces and rebels of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement North (SPLM-N).It is exacerbated by Sudan's president, Omar al-Bashir, who asserted that the time for talking is over, leaving only "the language of the gun and ammunition".
