Nairobi--  CfC Stanbic Bank has kicked off a Ksh5 million scholarship fund with the United States International University-Africa (USIU-A) to provide financial support to deserving but needy students.

The CfC Stanbic Bank Scholarship fund will cater for the full tuition fees for exemplary high school graduates to pursue their university education at USIU-A.

The partnership was sealed at a signing ceremony at the university today and was attended by CfC Stanbic Bank’s Regional Director for Corporate and Investment Banking in East Africa, Mr. Victor Williams, and United States International University Chancellor Professor Freida Brown.

“A good education provides the best chance for a successful and prosperous  life,” said Mr Williams while adding that the goal of the CfC Stanbic Bank Scholarship Fund is to nurture and create social transformational leaders who will act as change agents within their communities and play a part in nation building.

“As a bank, supporting education is one of the key pillars of our corporate social responsibility and we believe that through this programme, we will be able to provide the beneficiaries with a holistic education and impart them with the right skills, values and mindset aimed at making them responsible and accountable citizens of this country.”

While speaking during the signing ceremony, Prof Brown said: “This partnership with CfC Stanbic Bank  is in line with USIU’s identity as a premier learning institution that offers equal opportunities to students from all walks of life to obtain a first-class education.”

Professor Brown added, “We are grateful to CfC Stanbic Bank for coming to the aid of some of our bright students who might have difficulty in meeting their financial needs. We look forward to working together in promoting this collaboration so as to benefit more students in the future.”

The CfC Stanbic Bank Scholarship Fund will cater for the full tuition fees for two students each year, for the next three years.  For the current academic year, the first two students have already reported to the campus where they are pursuing Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting.

The scholars will be trained in not only all aspects of the banking which will form their major pre-occupation,  but also on other aspects like leadership, interpersonal skills, mentorship, communication and work ethics.
