Somalia: TFG Cracks Down On Al-Shabab

Govt announces rewards for information leading to arrest of militants.

By Eric Sande

The Somali government has prepared a packaged reward of unknown amounts for leads to information that would help crackdown on the leaders of the dreaded militia group Al-Shabaab. The security apparatus of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) in Somalia indicated the offer of attractive national rewards for any substantial information that will gratify the informer.

The statement was issued on Saturday October 16,where the general public are called for to report the hideouts of the al-Shabaab’s top officials who are presently in  the country to support the local jihad (holy war).

The public was also put to task through Mogadishu Radio, the state run broadcaster to report on information related with al-Shabaab’s logistics, training camps and spots where their explosives machineries are stored.

It is counted as the first time ever the embattled government has issued such a plea.

President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed of Somalia once told the UN Assembly that Al-Qaeda was working in cahoots  with the Al-Shabaab activists who have currently taken control of central and southern Somalia, the bone of contention for more than two decades. He condemned the Islamic insurgents, accusing them of turning Somalia into a breeding ground of Al-Qaeda, which is aimed at terrorising the entire Horn of Africa.

African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops recently approved a 20,000 strong peacekeeping force for Somalia to contain the latest Al-Shabaab offensive launched by the extremist group against the Somali people and support the destabilized TFG.
