Orange to double airtime this weekend

Yet another move aimed at making communication more affordable for Orange customers

By Peter Omondi

Nairobi … Orange pre-paid customers who reload their phones will this weekend enjoy double airtime.

The integrated telecommunications services provider, Orange, says the offer to double the airtime will run from Friday to Sunday, and is aimed at enabling their customers enjoy the unmatched Orange voice and data services for a longer period.

Head of Corporate Affairs, Angela Ng’ang’a-Mumo said the offer will apply to all to customers on pre-paid Telkom Landline, Orange Wireless and Orange Mobile, who buy airtime and load it during the weekend.

Ms. Mumo said the bonus airtime is available to use over a 7 day period to make calls and send SMS on the Orange network, as well as internet access. “Consumption for on-net calls, SMS and data will begin with the bonus airtime before the main account airtime”, she added.

Customers will however not get the bonus airtime if they reload their phones through E-Jaze and pin-less top-up will earn double bonus for any amount they buy.

At the same time, Orange has also introduced a month long offer on international calling rates.

Orange customers calling the US, Canada, China and India will now pay Sh. 3 per minute, while calls to landline phones in the UK will be charged at Sh. 10 per minute. Calls to Tanzania, Uganda and Australia will be charged at Sh17.50 and to South Africa, Ethiopia, Sudan, Germany and Saudi Arabia will be charged at Sh. 20 per minute, until November 7.

“The reduction in our tariffs demonstrates our commitment to customers. We constantly undertake to review our calling rates, with a view to make it possible for customers to communicate affordably”, said Ms. Mumo.

Last month Orange reduced the cost of internet access for modem users by half, and announced a revision in the cost charged when customers use their phones to surf the internet.
