Kenya: AccessKenya Group Doubles Home Internet Speeds

More than 400 customers to enjoy speeds that were announced at the recently concluded Concours D’Elegance which was sponsored by the ICT company.

Nairobi, Kenya---The AccessKenya Group, the first publicly listed ICT Company and Kenya’s leading data and IT services experts, today announced it has doubled its Home internet speeds for the same price for all existing and future Access@Home customers on its Value and Premium packages. In addition, they have offered increased speeds on their Elite product to also offer those clients improved services.

At the same time, the Group has announced a special offer for the last quarter of this year of up to 50 per cent price cut for double the previous capacity for all customers signing up for the next 3 months and a free fourth month on all the Access@Home services.

With their entry level Value package starting at Kshs 4,000 (US$50) for unlimited, uncapped service, customers who previously enjoyed 128/256kbps speeds at night and on weekends will now enjoy twice the capacity of 256/512kbps, a significant improvement on their previous offering.  In addition, those on their Kshs 6,000 (US$75) package dubbed Premium will now also have double the capacity at night and weekends from the previous 128/512kbps speed to the new 256/1Mbps speed.  The top of the range Access@Home Elite solution will now enjoy 512kbps/1.3Mbps speeds, giving them a significant improvement on the previous speeds.

On the offer, new customers who would have originally paid Kshs. 6,000  (US$75) for night time and weekend speeds of 128/512 kbps Premium package will now pay Kshs. 3,000 (US$37.5) for double the speeds of 256/512kbps while those who would have enjoyed speeds of 256/1MB at Kshs 9,000 (US$112.5) Elite will now access double the speed 512/1.3Mbps for a reduced price of Kshs. 6,000 (US$75).  They will also enjoy free internet for one month.

Speaking at the announcement of these new products Jonathan Somen Group Managing Director said: “This once again shows our commitment to our customers to deliver more to them and improve the value to them as we are able to do that.  As we grow and get more subscribers, we will continue to work on offering them more value and more speed.  The market told us that they wanted a guaranteed service but with more bandwidth.  Our customers did not want shared bandwidth services that offered inconsistent service delivery yet they wanted more capacity from us.  Our new improved offerings keep the basic benefits of buying guaranteed speeds while at the same time offering customers much more speed for the same money.”

“Access@Home offers a service to our customers completely unlike any other residential internet offering in the market. Firstly, we offer customers a guaranteed high speed at a very affordable and fixed price.   This is backed up with excellent levels of service and absolutely no data caps - effectively a corporate style guaranteed service for users at home.”

The new speeds, that were introduced at this year’s AccessKenya Africa Concours d’Elegance on Sunday, September 26, at the Ngong Racecourse, are in line with the Group’s plan of leading in products and services’ innovation as it celebrates its tenth year in the IT industry in Kenya.

“Our new speeds come with glad tidings for our 4000 residential clients. They shall enjoy these increased speeds at no extra cost from the comfort of their homes,” said Somen.

With digital data becoming more crucial in a modern global economy, the new speeds will be a shot in the arm for the home based internet sector that has seen a steady growth in the number of home owners who feel the need to access Internet from their homes.  At the same time, the doubling of its home speeds affirms that AccessKenya, as the data experts have the needed capacity to provide quality service to its clients.

Access@Home which was launched two years ago has seen a steady growth which saw it break the 2000 customer numbers barrier in September last year one year after launch. This figure has since doubled to 4000 customers to-date. The home market remains a key focus for AccessKenya with its huge potential of over 300,000 high end homes out of which only about 6 per cent  are tapped.
