Tsvangirai to Meet Libya’s Gaddafi.
HARARE, Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai is set to meet with African Union (AU) Chairman and Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi.
Tsvangirai who is headed to Morocco is expected to brief Gaddafi on the progress in solving outstanding issues in the unity government.
Political analysts however view the meeting as a move intended to exert diplomatic pressure on President Mugabe. To speed up the implementation of the Global Political Agreement signed in peace talks.
President Mugabe is accusing Tsvangirai for siding with the west in obstructing development aid into the country. However on going talks between European Union (EU) special envoys and Zimbabwean officials are expected to restore aid upon achievement.
Tsvangirai and his MDC party staged a three-week boycott from the coalition government in protest of Mugabe’s intimidation of his party members.
Recently Roy Bennet MDC’s Secretary-General was arrested and charged for illegal possession of arms with terrorism and insurgency intents.
Zimbabwe was hit by a humanitarian crisis after the disputed presidential election in March 2008. This led to the country being isolated from international community following Mugabe's refusal to step down and call for fresh elections. [ER].
