Guinea Opposition Urges Junta to Quit

CONAKRY, Guinea

Guinea’s main opposition is pressuring the ruling military Junta to step down to end the political crisis in the country caused by killing of unarmed protestors two months ago.

Mamadou Mouctar Diallo, a leader of one of the main opposition groups in Guinea, said that the only solution to the political crisis in guinea is the military junta to step down.

The military Junta Captain Dadis Moussa Camara who came to power after a coup last December is also ignorant to International pressure urging him to step down.

Recently, the United States, the European Union and the African Union imposed arms embargoes and travel restrictions to members of the military Junta including their leader captain Camara.

According to a United Nations report 157 people were killed in the Capital Conakry after the military opened fire to pro-democracy protestors on September 28.

Captain Camara has not yet made formal his intentions to vie for president in the January elections but he promised his supporters not ignore their demands. [GR]
