Tanzania: Four On Death Row Over Albino Murders

Four Tanzanians were convicted for the murder of an albino man last year and they have been sentenced to death by hanging.

The four were found guilty for killing the man, chopping off his head and legs. The ruling left many Tanzanians pleased.

This is the second ruling of its kind; the first one was passed September last year when three men were sentenced to death for murdering an albino boy.

This practice is on the rise since witchdoctors have made people believe that albino body parts are good luck portions and they sell them for thousand of dollars.

This practice is slowly gaining momentum in the neighboring Burundi where at least 12 albino people have been killed.

In the past two years alone over 50 albinos have been murdered in Tanzania and this has caused the albinos living in the north-west region to live in fright. [CK]
