SADC to Discuss Zimbabwe Power-Sharing Rift
The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has called for its political and defense committee to hold talks with Zimbabwe’s leaders on the political crisis facing the unity government.
The meeting scheduled to take place in Maputo, Mozambican capital on Thursday came in after a joint meeting between the southern Africa development bloc chairman-President of DR Congo Joseph Kabila, President Robert Mugabe and other key leaders in the unity government during his official visit on Monday.
President Kabila was in Harare to follow up an evaluation by SADC foreign ministers and later met with the press after a five-hour meeting with Mugabe.
Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s Movement for Democratic Change(MDC) pulled out of the Coalition government following row with Mugabe’s ZANU-PF for failing to honor the Global Political Agreement signed in 2008 after a disputed presidential election. [ER].
