Al Bashir Shows Support to AU in Boosting Peace in Darfur
President Omar Al Bashir has shown his support for the great role played by the African Union in boosting peace and stability in Darfur. He acknowledged the tireless efforts made by the African Union and its various bodies in the realization of stability in the country.
The African Union Commissioner for Peace and Security, Al Amamra, pointed out in a press statement following the meeting that he conveyed a message from Jean Ping the Commissioner for African Union to the President Al Bashir that he expressed his interest to probe some ideas prior to the meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council in Abuja, Nigeria later this Month.
Amamra said that the Africa Union Peace and Security Council meeting is opening for the Sudanese to express their views on the Security Council report on Darfur.
He told reporters that his meeting in Khartoum comes in the wake of the continued consultations between the AU and the Sudanese government to marshal up efforts and support aimed at reaching transparent and just solution on the raging Darfur situations, ensuring a stability and good life for the residents there.[ES]
