EU Prohibits Arms Transfer To Guinea.
The European Union (EU) has restricted arms transfer to Guinea following last month’s massacre which left approximately150 protesters dead.
EU also intends to restrict travel and freeze the assets of Junta leader Captain Moussa Dadis Camara’s government who seized power after a military coup last December.
These restrictions have been impounded on Guinea leaders because of violation of human rights and killing of protestors by Guinea’s security forces.
According to the British watchdog Amnesty International official, Mike Lewis, some of the military equipment used in last months attack was supplied by European based companies
Mr. Lewis said that the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has lead the way in blocking arms to Guinea by regulating and controlling arms transfers into and within the ECOWAS region.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has launched a preliminary investigation into possible crimes against humanity during the violence in Guinea. [GR]
