Botswana’s Khama Sworn for New Presidential Term
Botswana’s President Ian Khama has been sworn in for a new term following a landslide election win.
Mr. Khama took an oath of office on Tuesday at parliament buildings following his Botswana Democratic Party’s win of 45 out of 57 seats in parliamentary elections held last week.
In his inauguration speech, Khama promised to brace Botswana’s economy, which has lately been hit hard by falling world diamond prices. Diamond is Botswana’s main export.
Khama came to power when former President Festus Mogae, who Khama served as vice-president for over 10 years, stepped down in April 2008. [ER].
