Kenya Optimistic About Possible Oil Find
Kenya is optimistic that it could soon join Uganda in celebrating their new status as oil producers, the country’s energy minister has said.
According to Minister Kiraitu Murungi, seismic trials undertaken over the past two years have shown the likely existence of oil deposits in the East African nation, which has the region’s largest economy.
Next week, China’s National Offshore Oil Corporation will start prospecting for oil near Isiolo, Northern Kenya.
Neighbors Uganda and Tanzania have already discovered substantial oil and gas deposits within their borders. [CK]
