Zimbabwe to Receive $100 Million from Britain
Britain has said it will grant a $100 million aid to help Zimbabwe ease its current humanitarian crisis.
British High Commissioner to Zimbabwe Mike Canning said the money would be used to restore basic services and to provide food aid and farm inputs to poor families. Canning said the formation of a national unity government in Zimbabwe was a significant step that should not be allowed to fail over a lack of funds.
Canning added that Britain was ready to resume normal ties with the country provided the power-sharing accord was implemented fully and talks between the European Union and Zimbabwe succeeded.
Zimbabwe’s coalition government, which was formed between President Robert Mugabe and opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai following a disputed March 2008 presidential election, has been in turmoil over sharing of key posts. [ER].
