Court to Rule on MDC’s Bennet Impeachment

Zimbabwean Magistrate will today make a ruling on indictment case against Senator Roy Bennet, Treasurer-general of Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).

Senator Bennet was arrested early this year upon arrival from South Africa where he had sought asylum and was charged with illegal possession of fire arms for terrorism between 2002 and 2006.

His arrest and several other MDC politicians is seen as political ploy by President Mugabe to stop him from being sworn in as deputy Agriculture Minister.

President Mugabe and Morgan Tsvangirai formed a coalition government following disputed presidential elections in June last year. This plunged the country into financial crisis leading to isolation from the International community. [ER].
