Tsvangirai Readies for Fresh Polls under New Constitution
Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has alerted his Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party followers to gear up for new elections once a new constitution is in place.
In a statement to his supporters following President Robert Mugabe’s call to his ZANU-PF party, Tsvangirai reminded them of the Global Political Agreement (GPA) that calls for fresh elections once the new constitution is passed in a referendum within the next two years.
Tsvangirai was on a countrywide tour to update the public on the coalition government’s developments and achievements over the past one year.
The ruling coalition formed between rivals Tsvangirai and Mugabe, following a disputed election in March 2008, has largely been turbulent over power sharing. [ER].
