Tanzania Cracks Down on ‘Ghost Workers’
Tanzanian ghost workers will soon face the law thanks to the implementation of the findings of an investigation by the country’s education ministry.
The ministry discovered in a 2008 investigation that salaries were being released to over 1000 ghost workers.
Investigations are currently underway to identify, seal loopholes and arrest the culprits, whose actions have been attributed to negligence, inefficiency and the lack of accountability.
Health principal secretary Blandina Nyoni further suggested that the payroll system should be decentralized to each ministry to help reduce this problem. [CK]
