South Africa’s Zuma Backs Police ‘Shoot to Kill’ Order
PRETORIA, South Africa
South African President Jacob Zuma has supported a police shoot-to-kill order against criminals in an effort to curb violent crime ahead of the 2010 World Cup.
In a meeting with police station commanders, President Zuma expressed concern over the rising crime rate. He urged the police to employ extraordinary measures in dealing with the country’s sky high crime rates.
South Africa has one of the highest crime rates in the world, with about 50 crime-related deaths reported daily. [ER]
