Kenya: promised land for Kibera residents

The journey to the Promised Land finally began yesterday for the Kibera Soweto residents.

Kibera being the largest slum in sub-Saharan Africa has for many years been home for an estimated population of one million.

Residents have lived in muddy iron sheet-roofed hovels with no proper sanitation but yesterday was the big day and some of them moved to the newly constructed houses which have toilets electricity and water.

The housing project was initiated by the Government of Kenya and the United Nations Centre for Human Settlement {UN-HABITAT) which is aimed at improving their standards of living {CK}
