Suspended Botswana Ruling Party Boss Challenges Khama
The ousted secretary general of Botswana’s ruling party has moved to court to contest his suspension by President Ian Khama, who is also the party’s chairman.
Gomolemo Motswaledi filed his case at the high court as the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) prepares to hold party elections.
Motswaledi claims he was suspended for refusing to step down for President Khama’s brother, Tshekedi Khama. President Khama however released a statement saying he suspended Motswaledi for indiscipline and abuse of his position as BDP secretary general.
President Khama took office in April 2009 after being shooed in by former leader Festus Mogae. [ER].
