Sudanese Army Accused of Fresh Darfur Bombings
Aid workers and rebels in Darfur say the Sudanese army has perpetrated fresh bombings in the region after a relative lull over the past few weeks. Darfur’s rebel Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) says army helicopters and Antonov planes attacked their fighters in north Darfur on Wednesday and Thursday. Fighting between government trops and rebel forces in the region died down when the joint UN/African Union peacekeeping force (UNAMID) announced it was investigating reports of clashes between the two sides after President Omar al-Bashir’s unilateral November 2009 ceasefire.
