Mugabe Remains Defiant as Zimbabwe Degenerates
Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe is continuing to ignore mounting calls to resign, declaring his country’s cholera crisis over while the World Health Organization has recorded a cholera death toll that is fast approaching 800. Mugabe’s remarks have drawn renewed international criticism, including from UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Meanwhile, the outbreak is spreading to Zimbabwe's neighbours. At least eight people have died in South Africa, prompting the country to declare its border with Zimbabwe a disaster zone. The situation in Zimbabwe is deteriorating by the day under the triple mire of political deadlock, hyperinflation and a dire cholera outbreak.
