November 19, 2008
19 November 2008 - News From Africa
The joint UN-African Union peacekeeping mission in Darfur (UNAMID) is probing reports of fresh bombings by Sudanese military planes in Darfur, less than one week after President Omar al-Bashir declared an immediate ceasefire between the army and black rebel movements in the troubled Western region. UNAMID said it had received detailed reports of airplane bombings around Kutum, a town in North Darfur. An estimated 300,000 people have been killed and 2.5 million displace since the Darfur conflict erupted in 2003.
