UN Envoy Obasanjo to Meet Congolese Rebel Leader

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, who is the UN’s new envoy to the raging conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), is set to meet rebel leader Laurent Nkunda. Obasanjo met Congolese President Joseph Kabila in Kinshasa on Friday and will fly to meet Nkunda in the country’s restive east. UN Secretary General Ban ki-moon appointed Obasanjo last week to spearhead the UN’s search of a solution to the fighting between Nkunda's Tutsi guerrillas and the Congolese army, which has displaced 250,000 people from their homes.
