November 11, 2008
11 November 2008 - News From Africa
Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo, Prime Minister Guillaume Soro and other leaders have agreed to postpone the country’s long overdue elections, saying it was impossible to hold the vote as scheduled on November 30.The elections were part of a 2007 peace deal signed between Gbagbo and Soro, then a rebel leader, to end a civil war that had split the country into a rebel-held north and a government-controlled south. The leaders did not announce any future dates for the deferred election. [PE]
