Gunmen Ambush UN-AU Peacekeepers in Darfur

A group of unknown armed men ambushed members of the joint UN-African Union mission in Darfur (UNAMID), injuring one peacekeeper and stealing a vehicle. UNAMID reported that the Nigerian peacekeepers were ambushed by armed men brandishing rocket grenades and AK-47 assault rifles while on an evening patrol near the Geneina Camp in West Darfur. An exchange of fire ensued and the wounded soldier was airlifted to the North Darfuri capital of El Fasher for treatment. [PE]
