Somali Insurgents Assassinate Baidoa Deputy Mayor

Unidentified insurgents have assassinated the deputy mayor of Baidoa, a city in south-central Somalia that hosts the country's interim federal parliament. According to Radio Garowe, Deputy Mayor Hussein Runow was shot dead before his killers fled and eluded Somali police units that had rushed to the scene of the murder. Last September, a Somali legislator was killed in Baidoa and his murder is still unresolved, though suspicion has mostly been aimed at Al Shabaab, a militant Islamist group. [PE]
