DJIBOUTI, Djibouti
27 October 2008 - News From Africa
Somalia's interim and the opposition Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia (ARS) have signed a ceasefire agreement that calls for the withdrawal of Ethiopian troops from the country. The agreement, which the two sides signed on Sunday in Djibouti, will take effect on November 5 and expects the Ethiopian troops to start departing from Somalia November 21. The leader of the renegade Islamic Courts Union, Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys, has however rejected the ceasefire deal. [PE]
