24 October 2008 - News From Africa
Djibouti has warned that Eritrea's occupation of its territory along their common border overlooking the Red Sea could cause war unless it is resolved soon. Speaking at the UN Headquarters, Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh urged the UN Security Council to demand a resolution of the crisis within weeks and institute sanctions for either party that fails to cooperate. Guelleh said Eritrea has occupied the territory, which adjoins critical Red Sea shipping lanes, since March this year. [ PE]
