African Leaders to Attend Economic Integration Summit
Fourteen African heads of state have confirmed that they will attend a summit to discuss the prospects for greater economic integration, scheduled to kick off Wednesday in Kampala, Uganda. Ugandan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs Eriya Kategaya says the leaders will discuss trade relations and infrastructural development aimed at harmonizing commerce between 26 countries, thereby helping resolve Africa’s development crisis. The “Tripartite Summit” hopes to integrate the member countries of the East African Community (EAC), the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
