Tsvangirai Says Zimbabwe Faces Humanitarian Crisis
Zimbabwean Prime Minister-designate Morgan Tsvangirai has called for the urgent constitution of a unity government to avert a looming humanitarian crisis in the country. Speaking to reporters in Harare, Tsvangirai said there was need for a government that would obtain relief food for 5.5 million Zimbabweans who face starvation by January and to jumpstart the country’s economy, which is experiencing a near standstill in the farming, industry and mining sectors. Tsvangirai signed a power sharing deal with President Robert Mugabe on September 15, but the formation of a unity government has stalled over the division of prime cabinet positions.[PE]
