Ruling On Nigerian President’s Election Set for October
Nigeria’s Supreme Court will on October 13 rule on appeals lodged by two former presidential candidates against President Umaru Yar’Adua controversial 2007 election. Making the announcement, Nigerian Chief Justice Idris Kutigi directed former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar and Muhammadu Buhari to file their briefs by close of business on Friday. Yar’Adua was fronted by outgoing President Olusegun Obasanjo and was elected in a controversial election dismissed by local and international observers as not being free and fair.[PE]
