Somali PM’s Plane Lands Safely Despite Insurgent Threats

Somalia’s interim Prime Minister Nur Hassan Hussein landed safely at Mogadishu's main Airport Thursday despite a threat by insurgents to down all planes arriving in the city. Hussein arrived unannounced from a three-day trip to Djibouti, where he failed to reach agreement during talks with the leaders of the Somali opposition Alliance for the Re-liberalization of Somalia (ARS). Hussein’s return coincided with a threat by the Al Shabaab insurgents to shoot down all planes landing in Mogadishu. Meanwhile, nearly 50 people have died since Monday as clashes continue to rage between the Islamist-led insurgents and a coalition of Somali government troops and African Union peacekeepers. [PE]<
