Kenya Warns Local Oil Firms to Cut Prices
The Kenya government and the country’s main trade union have threatened to mobilize a boycott of oil firms that do not reduce their pump prices in line falling global prices. Kenya’s Energy minister Kiraitu Murungi on Monday demanded that all oil firms cut pump prices by at least 14 US cents, warning that the government would campaign for a public boycott against that do not adjust their prices downwards in tandem with the international trend. On Tuesday, the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) chairman Rajabu Mwondi threatened to mobilize a major boycott of oil dealers who do not comply within the next fortnight.[PE]
