Kenya Implores World Community to Save Somalia
Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki has urged the global community to intervene in Somalia, saying the troubled Horn of Africa country needed to be rescued from any further degeneration. Speaking at a function in Nairobi, Kibaki urged the international community to fulfill their promises to provide necessary resources for peace in the war ravaged country, noting that the country’s transitional government was experiencing hefty challenges and calling for the deployment of international peacekeepers. Somalia has not had an effective government since dictator Siad Barre was deposed by clan warlords in 1991. [PE]
