Zimbabwe Rivals Clinch Power sharing Deal
President Robert Mugabe and Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai have reached a power sharing agreement and could form a unity government as early as next week, mediator and South African President Thabo Mbeki told a news conference Thursday. Mbeki said details of the joint government and the cabinet will be unveiled at a formal signing ceremony in Harare next Monday.The new deal comes five months after Zimbabweans voted in a March 27 first round vote that Tsvangirai won before boycotting a runoff in which Mugabe was reelected unopposed It’s not yet clear what role each leader will play in the new administration.[PE]
