Mbeki Tables New Power Sharing Proposals for Zimbabwe
South African President Thabo Mbeki on Tuesday presented new proposals on the division of executive authority in a unity government between Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai. Sources say Mbeki presented the new proposals when he kick started the negotiations in a meeting with both leaders at Rainbow Towers in Harare. The talks had remained deadlocked for over two weeks because of a tussle over executive power between President Mugabe, who was reelected unopposed in a June runoff election, and Tsvangirai, who won the first round ballot in May.
