Burundi Rebel Leader Alleges Plot to Kill Him

The leader of Burundi’s last active rebel group has alleged a plot by his country’s national security agencies to assassinate him, adding however that his group will continue with negotiations towards a final peace deal. Agathon Rwasa, the leader of the PalipeHutu-FNL rebels, has written a letter to Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza, alleging a plot by the army, police and intelligence to kill him and his top political associates. Rwasa returned to Burundi from in exile in Tanzania last May, aiming to finally implement a 2006 peace deal he had initially rejected.[PE]
